Walailak University Research Convention 2022 (WRC 2022) under the theme “the Role of Higher Education in the Post COVID and Human Development” has begun

Walailak Research Convention 2022 (WRC 2022) organized under the theme “the Role of Higher Education in the Post COVID and Human Development” has begun with an opening ceremony at Hua Thapan Conference Hall, Walailak University Hospital on 28th March, 2022. Presiding over the event was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pasit Lorterapong, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. The event was virtually joined by a number of distinguished speakers, plenary discussion experts, research presenters and participants both from Thailand and overseas, amounting to almost 40 countries worldwide. Bridging the Unseen Gaps: International Scholarship Programs and Disadvantaged People with Asst. Prof. Dr. Budi Waluyo, Winners of Fulbright Presidential Scholarship, Indonesia, 2015

Asst. Prof. Dr. Budi Waluyo, Walailak University lecturer and winner of the Fulbright Presidential Scholarship, 2015 championed disadvantaged students’ free and comprehensive online platform called Sekolah TOEFL to assist students restrained by disadvantaged conditions in scoring as required on a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) putting them on par with other applicants to win international scholarships. Cr. Jenny Hill, Australian Mayor of Townsville, Queensland, shared her perspective on the management of the city Townsville with local government officials of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand in the talk “what is the future of smart local and urban prosperity?” organized as part of Walailak Research Convention 2022 by Center of Excellence for Local and City Governance, Walailak University, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the university’s founding. The mayor in her talk emphasized the importance of the local government as a unit functioning in close proximity to the livelihood of the people, in providing and managing fundamental needs as well as addressing contextual challenges the city faces. Walailak Research Convention 2022 (WRC 2022) Fast Approaching

Walailak University, led by the Institute of Research and Innovation (IRI), is organizing the 1st Walailak Research Convention 2022 on the occasion that Walailak University is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the university foundation between 28 and 29 March 2022. The convention will be conducted under the theme “The Role of Higher Education in Post COVID 19 and Human Development” and serve as an open forum for academic work presentation and sharing of knowledge and experience among scholars. This is hoped to strengthen research on the development, stability, and sustainability truly meeting the societal needs.
The convention shall feature a plenary session, conferences, and seminars amounting to over 16 sessions featuring international experts across disciplines. All the 20 units of the Walailak university’s Center of Excellence specializing in a diverse range of disciples i.e., informatics innovation, functional materials, and Nanotechnology and data science for health study will be presenting studies and workshops will be arranged under the recommendation of the WRC 2022 scientific committee. Trichoderma 5 Plus for Plant Disease Control by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Warin Intana Winning the Invention with the Highest Contribution to the Economic Value Award 2022

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Warin Intana, Lecturer of School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry Walailak University and Head of Tropical Crop Research Units, Walailak University received “Inventor with the Highest Contribution to Economic Value in the Southern Science Park Network Award” presented to recognize researchers devising outstanding innovations and passing on the knowledge to both public and private sectors to generate high total income. The ceremony was organized by Southern Thailand Science Park, Prince of Songkla University (PSU) between 26 and 27 February 2022 and the award was presented by Asst. Lab Design and Frontier Research: A Critical Combination with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phimphaka Harding

High quality research requires high quality infrastructure to support it. In this article, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phimphaka Harding, Head of the Functional Materials and Nanotechnology Center of Excellence (FuNTech), Walailak University (WU) walked us through the evolution of WU’s laboratory infrastructure and her perspective on building the lab of the future.

“Constructing laboratory infrastructure as a Center for Excellence requires a variety of tools, as well as sufficient funding. Walailak University Welcoming the Visit from an MOU Partner Chunghwa Telecom Thailand (CHT)

Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, accompanied by the university’s executive team welcomed the executives from Chunghwa Telecom Thailand (CHT) led by Mr. Arthur Yang, President of CHT Thailand, Mr. Chieh-Han Ke, Vice of President of CHT, Dr. Ittichai Boonsiri, Vice- President of CHT to visit Walailak University and Walailak hospital, Nakhon Si Thammarat on 17th March 2022. This visit followed the first on 17th February 2022 at Chor Pradu Conference room, 4th floor, Walailak University hospital. The aim was to discuss official cooperation to advance Walailak University hospital’s information systems and solutions in order to attain the goal of becoming a smart hospital. Prof. Dr. Udomsak Saengow, M.D., Acting President of Walailak Hospital, welcomed Ms. Cristina Ortiz, Mr. Karl Gregory Shaver, and Mr. Tyler Haddad, Exchange medical students from Ohio State University.
