Walailak Center of International Affairs – Promotion of national and global partnerships for the goals

Walailak University, located in the upper south of Thailand, is a comprehensive research university, offering 46 programs in three main academic areas: health sciences, science and technology and social sciences, through 14 schools, three international colleges and a graduate school. All of these schools aim to achieve Walailak Universitys primary mission to develop learners to be professionally proficient and morally strong, in addition to the traditional coursework, through Walailaks unique policy of 8month cooperative education at any organization of learnersinterests and through Walailaks distinctive morality passport encouraging all learners to selfdevelop integrity, discipline, beneficence (contribute to favorable environment, sustainable society, or strong and stable economy), and leadership. 

Walailak aims to grow as an institution of good governance, a source of knowledge for critical problems facing the nation, to unfailingly address community needs, and to strive for international recognition for excellence.  In order to open a world-class gateway to quality education honoring equity, life-long learning, professionalism and integrity, Walailak Center of International Affairs (Walailak CIA) plays a crucial role in international academic and research collaboration for the promotion of healthy environment, quality education, favorable societies, and strong economy for all.

In terms of international education collaboration, so far Walailak has welcome close to 9,000 international students, including full-time and short-visiting, from 19 different countries.  Currently, we are hosting international students in different programs from the following countries: India, Ghana, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Myanmar, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Zimbabwe, Kazakhstan, Somalia, Keny, Buhtan, Nepal, Indonesia and China. To promote international education at Walailak, Walailak College of Graduate Studies (WUGRAD) also provides scholarships to all qualified international candidates.  To the present date, WUGRAD has granted the total of 163 grants to international students.

Currently, Walailak has achieved the total of 76 memoranda of understanding that connect Walailak to quality universities in 22 countries: Australia, Austria Bangladesh, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Macedonia, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, South Korea, Taiwan, Timor-Leste, UK, USA, Vietnam.

To promote quality research, Walailak presently accommodates 23 centers of excellence (CoEs) which is working with research partners in over 70 countries worldwide. These CoEs support the main structures of sustainable world: environment, health, society and economy. CoEs that help promote healthy environment include Center of Excellence for Wood and Biomaterials, Center of Excellence for Ecoinformatics, Center of Excellence for Sustainable Disaster Management, and Center for Excellence for Shrimp.  Those working on the enhancement of strong societies are Center of Excellence for Food Technology and Innovation, Center of Excellence for Women and Society Security, Centre of Excellence for Local and City Governance, and Research Center on Education and Culture.  Other centers aiming at promote good health include Center of Excellence for Drug and Cosmetic, Research Center in Workers Health, Center of Excellence for Health System and Medical Research, Center of Excellence for Public Health Promotion, Center of Excellence for Melioidosis Research, Center of Excellence for Dengue Research and Academic Service, Center of Excellence for Innovation and Health Products, Center of Excellence for Thai’s Cannabis for Medical Used, Research Center on One Health.  The other group focusing on prosperous economy includes Centre of Excellence for Functional Materials and Nanotechnology, Center of Excellence for Informatics Innovation, Center of Excellence for Innovation on Essential oil, Logistics and Business Analytic Center of Excellence, Center of Excellent for Tourism Business and Creative Economy and Center of Excellence for Biomass and Oil Palm.

In terms of environment, Walailak University is developing itself into the best green university in Asia with the university’s front gate exquisite esplanade, handsome multi-purposed botanic garden and a well-equipped sport complex. For academic facilities, it also provides students with the smart classrooms, smart transportation, smart laboratories, smart laboratories and smart security system.

Walailak University is also developing quality education for both Thai and international students.  Leading all universities in Thailand, WU, committed to excellence in teaching, is currently celebrating its highest number of almost 450 internationally certified fellows (or over 93% of all the staff members) (1 principal fellow, 56 Senior Fellows and 376 Fellows) licensed by a globally-recognized higher education framework of the United Kingdom Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) in Thailand and in South-East Asia.

ศูนย์กิจการนานาชาติจัดประชุมหารือด้านสหกิจศึกษา กับ University of Southampton สหราชอาณาจักร
