Walailak University International Students Explore Local Heritage at “Colors of Kiriwong” Workshop

Kiriwong/Walailak/Thailand

Nakhon Si Thammarat – January 17, 2026 — The Center for International Affairs (CIA) recently hosted an immersive cultural excursion, “Colors of Kiriwong: Natural Dye & Local Wisdom,” bringing together 47 international students and faculty members from 11 different countries to explore the heart of Nakhon Si Thammarat’s local traditions.

Experience Local Wisdom and Sustainability

The event took place in the famous Kiriwong Village, recognized as one of the best atmosphere spots in Thailand. The primary goal was to promote cultural exchange and sustainability through hands-on learning. Participants engaged in a Natural Tie-Dye Workshop, learning traditional techniques from village experts who use pigments derived from local plants and fruits.

Beyond the workshop, the group explored the community’s way of life and enjoyed the natural beauty of the area, including a relaxing visit to the Wang Mai Pak Waterfall.

Global Voices, Local Stories

To capture the spirit of the day, the international students collaborated to produce promotional videos showcasing their experiences. These student-led creative projects serve to:

  • Highlight the vibrant international community at Walailak University.

  • Promote local Thai tourism and eco-friendly practices to a global audience.

  • Reflect the university’s commitment to creative and experiential learning.

Strengthening International Ties

The “Colors of Kiriwong” activity was met with great enthusiasm. By blending academic life with cultural preservation and environmental awareness, the Center for International Affairs continues to strengthen the university’s international profile while fostering a deep appreciation for Southern Thai heritage.
