The Center for International Affairs Hosts “Cultural Threads” Tie-Dye Workshop for International Students in Sichon
The Center for International Affairs (CIA) at Walailak University recently organized an immersive cultural event titled “Cultural Threads: International Tie-Dye Experience in Sichon.” The event took place in the scenic Sichon District, welcoming a total of 98 participants.
The group included short-term exchange students from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia, along with international students currently enrolled at Walailak University. The diverse cohort featured representatives from several nations, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Myanmar.
The primary goal of the program was to introduce international students to Southern Thai local wisdom. Participants engaged in a hands-on tie-dye workshop led by expert local artisans from the Sichon community. During the workshop, students:
- Learned traditional dyeing techniques and patterns.
- Created their own unique pieces of textile art.
- Fostered new friendships through cross-cultural dialogue.
This initiative reflects Walailak University’s ongoing commitment to internationalization and experiential learning. By taking education outside the classroom and into local communities, the university provides a platform for students of various backgrounds to build mutual understanding while helping preserve and promote local cultural heritage.
The “Cultural Threads” experience stands as a testament to the power of creative collaboration in building a sustainable and inclusive international community.
