WALAILAK University Joins SEA TEACHER Project, Aims for Global Excellence

Walailak University, Thailand – On August 5-6, 2025, Asst. Prof. Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Director of the Center for International Affairs and Assistant Professor Dr. Kiki Juli Anggoro, Assistant Dean for International Affairs at the School of Education, attended the SEA TEACHER 10th Batch Evaluation Meeting at Universitas Brawijaya in Malang, Indonesia.
The International Affairs Office coordinated the university’s participation in the meeting to express Walailak University’s desire to become a member of the SEA TEACHER program. The event was attended by 127 representatives from Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, and Canada, providing a valuable opportunity to introduce Walailak University to a wide network of international partners. Brochures were distributed at the event, which led to several universities expressing interest in forming partnerships with Walailak University.
Exciting New Opportunities for Walailak University Students
As a key outcome of the meeting, Walailak University is preparing to send students from both the School of Education and the School of Science to participate in a one-month overseas teaching practicum under the SEA TEACHER project.
This program offers students an incredible opportunity with a number of key benefits, including:
- Bilateral tuition fee waiver: Students will not have to pay tuition fees.
- Accommodations provided: Housing will be arranged by the host university.
- Student-covered costs: Students will only be responsible for their flight tickets, visa fees, and personal expenses.
The university’s management has tasked the School of Education and the School of Science, in collaboration with the International Affairs Office, with developing a detailed plan. This plan will include a factsheet with a clear timeline for receiving inbound international students for a one-month teaching practicum at Walailak’s network schools. It will also outline the qualifications required for these students and the university’s timeline and plans for sending Walailak students abroad.
About the SEA TEACHER Program
The SEA TEACHER Program, also known as the “Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia,” is an initiative by SEAMEO (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization). This program provides opportunities for pre-service teachers from universities in Southeast Asia to gain teaching experience in schools in other member countries. The program’s goals are to enhance teaching skills, foster 21st-century skills, and promote the internationalization of participating universities.
A one-month practicum for a pre-service student teacher typically includes four main activities:
- Observation: Observing classes and teaching methods in the host country.
- Teaching Assistance: Assisting local teachers in the classroom.
- Teaching Practicum: Leading classes and applying their teaching skills.
- Reflection: Reflecting on their experiences and receiving feedback from mentors.
