Walailak University Drives Global Partnerships at APAIE 2026 in Hong Kong

Walailak University (WU) has taken a significant step in its internationalization strategy by participating in the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2026 conference. Held from February 23–27, 2026, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the event serves as one of the premier platforms for higher education collaboration in the Asia-Pacific region.

Led by Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, the WU delegation—including the Director of the Center for International Affairs (CIA) and dedicated staff—engaged with academic leaders from across the globe. Stationed at Booth J05, the university focused on promoting its international programs, academic collaborations, and expanding its worldwide partner network.

Throughout the event, the WU team hosted scheduled meetings with representatives from 66 institutions spanning nearly 20 countries, including:

  • Europe: Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, Austria, Czech Republic, Romania, and Turkey.

  • Americas: USA and Canada.

  • Asia & Oceania: Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, and South Korea.

  • Africa: South Africa.

The university also held strategic discussions with world-renowned university ranking organizations, including QS Quacquarelli Symonds and Times Higher Education (THE).

Professor Dr. Sombat personally welcomed international delegates at the booth, fostering a warm and professional atmosphere that reflects WU’s commitment to genuine global partnership.

Simultaneously, Assistant Professor Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Director of the Center for International Affairs, proactively visited various institutional booths to negotiate new frontiers of cooperation. These discussions focused on:

  • Student and staff exchange programs.

  • Joint curriculum development.

  • International research collaborations.

Participation in APAIE 2026 underscores Walailak University’s proactive role in driving its Internationalization (IZ) strategy. By strengthening existing ties and forging new alliances, the university continues to elevate its prestige and academic standing on the global stage.
