Walailak University Strengthens Central Asian Ties with Collaboration Focus

Center for International Affairs Facilitates Visit from Leading Institutions
On August 20, 2024, Walailak University (WU) is expanding its global reach with a renewed focus on educational collaboration in Central Asia. The university recently hosted a delegation from top institutions in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan to discuss joint research initiatives and student and staff mobility programs.
The visit, facilitated by the Center for International Affairs, was marked by a welcoming event at the Chorpradu Chamber, WU Hospital. Dr. Orathai Phubunlap Gunaseelan, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Royal Thai Embassy in Astana, Kazakhstan, joined the delegates for the discussion.
During the event, representatives from M. Auezov South Kazakhstan State University, Kyrgyz State Technical University, and Tajik National University presented their universities’ backgrounds and potential areas of collaboration. WU’s College of Graduate Studies and International College also showcased their programs and areas of focus.
Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the potential for joint research and knowledge exchange between the institutions. He emphasized WU’s commitment to fostering a globalized learning environment and its recent recognition for excellence in internationally high-caliber research.

Dr. Orathai Phbunlap Gunaseelan noted that Walailak University is an ideal partner for collaboration, emphasizing the university’s active promotion of partnerships with international institutions. She also expressed her belief that this visit marks the beginning of a fruitful and constructive partnership between Thailand and Central Asian countries.
The delegation’s visit to Thailand included participation in the Carbon Neutral Tourism Workshop and a tie-dye activity in Krabi Province, organized by the WU School of Management
