Walailak University and Universiti Sains Malaysia Collaborate on Climate Change Research

Walailak University hosted a delegation from Universiti Sains Malaysia on October 30th to discuss collaborative research on the impacts of climate change on coastal communities. Led by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Narimah Samat, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and International Affairs, the Malaysian team expressed keen interest in exploring joint research projects with their Thai counterparts.
The focus of the visit was a research project titled “Impact of Climate Change and Community Adaptation to Fisheries Activities: Case Study in Tha Sala District, Thailand.” Funded by Universiti Sains Malaysia, the study aims to understand how climate change is affecting fishing communities in the region and to develop strategies for adaptation.
Walailak University faculty members from various disciplines participated in the discussions, sharing their ongoing research on related topics such as the social impacts of climate change and community resilience. A field trip to the crab bank in Ban Nai Thung and Ban Laem communities provided an opportunity for the researchers to observe the local ecosystem firsthand and discuss potential research sites.
This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the relationship between the two universities and highlights the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges like climate change. Both institutions have expressed their commitment to ongoing research and exchange programs to strengthen their partnership and contribute to a more sustainable future.
