Center for International Affairs Hosts Internal SciVal Workshop to Empower WU’s Research Capabilities

Nakhon Si Thammarat – On July 15, 2026, the Center for International Affairs (CIA) at Walailak University hosted an internal capacity-building workshop titled “Using the SciVal System for School-Level Research Performance Analysis.” Held at Room 207, Academic Building 6, the collaborative session brought together 35 representatives from 17 academic schools, specifically targeting heads of research centers and Assistant Deans for International Affairs.
Since 2020, Walailak University has consistently driven a policy to encourage research publications in Scopus-indexed Q1 (Quarter 1) journals to elevate research quality and enhance global competitiveness. Systematically analyzing publication volume and citation impact is essential for identifying each school’s core research strengths and strategic direction.
To turn these strategic goals into actionable insights, the workshop focused on helping academic units maximize the potential of SciVal, a world-class research performance analytics platform subscribed to by the university. Participants engaged in practical, hands-on training, learning how to:
-
Build and manage researcher groups for targeted performance tracking.
-
Identify and define Flagship Research Areas unique to each academic school.
-
Conduct benchmarking analyses against international peer institutions.
By empowering its schools with data-driven research analytics, Walailak University aims to refine its internal strategies, foster high-impact international collaborations, expand global academic networks, and secure international funding—representing concrete, strategic steps toward advancing the university’s standing in international rankings.
