On August 20, 2026, the Center for International Affairs at Walailak University hosted the “International Food Festival 2026: Tour Around the World” at Bota Market. The event was officially inaugurated by Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University.

The festival featured culinary highlights from seven nations—Russia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Thailand. International students prepared iconic traditional dishes, including:

• Russian Borscht

• Indonesian Tempeh Mendoan

• Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls

• Myanmar Mohinga

• Pakistani Biryani

• Malaysian Nasi Lemak

Local flavors were also spotlighted alongside global cuisine, showcasing signature Nakhon Si Thammarat delicacies such as Mee Pak Phanang (stir-fried Pak Phanang noodles) and Khanom La.

Cultural exchange continued on stage with dynamic performances, including routines by the WU Cover Dance Club, an exchange student troupe from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), and cultural showcases by Indonesian and international students.

The International Food Festival served as more than a culinary fair; it acted as a dynamic bridge connecting domestic and international students across the campus.

• Promoting Cross-Cultural Empathy: By sharing traditional recipes and performance arts, international students brought their heritage to life, allowing local peers to experience different customs firsthand. This direct exposure deepens mutual respect and breaks down cultural stereotypes.

• Strengthening Peer-to-Peer Connections: Collaborative preparations—cooking together, sharing booth spaces, and cheering on fellow students during performances—provided an organic space for Thai and foreign students to interact, build friendships, and practice cross-cultural communication.

• Creating an Inclusive Global Campus: Embracing international students’ cultural identities alongside southern Thai local heritage reinforces Walailak University’s commitment to an inclusive, globally minded educational environment where every student feels recognized and valued.
