Walailak University Receives ฿‎200K Donation from Phoenix Excel Company Limited Supporting Students in Gaining International Experience

On December 7, 2023, Walailak University, led by Dr. Mongkol Teerananond, Assistant to the President, received a 200,000 Baht donation from Ms. Wadhanya Chirungsarpsook, Product Manager at Phoenix Excel Co., Ltd., at the Honor Hall, Walailak University Hospital. The contribution from Phoenix Excel will be placed into Walailak University International Exchange Scholarship (WUIES), a fund created to support students in gaining experience abroad.

Dr. Mongkol Teerananond said Walailak University places a significant emphasis on enhancing students’ English skills and supporting them through international exchange programs. The university aims to cultivate morally strong students with professional skills capable of competing at the international level. He also briefed Ms. Wadhanya about the university’s growth and developments under the leadership of President Sombat Thamrongthanyawong.

Ms. Wadhanya Chirungsarpsook said she trusts in the university’s potential in developing quality graduates and learned about WUIES from Dr. Mongkol. She believes supporting students in going abroad will greatly benefit them. 

“When we have the chance to experience life abroad, it completely changes our perspective. Students can acquire self-care skills, learn to adapt to unfamiliar places, and develop proficiency in the English language. It is a gateway to further self-development,” she said. 

Also participating in the event were Assistant Professor Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Director of Center for International Affairs; Associate Professor Dr. Wirut Thinnakorn, Dean of School of Architecture and Design; Ms. Hattakarn Karunpaisarn, Head of Division of Finance and Accounting, and Mr. Ekkarat Kaeokhiao and Mrs. Sanghatai Kubklomsong, from Center for Cooperative Education and Career Development.

Established since 1992, Walailak University has undergone many transformations. 2022 marks the first year the university has been ranked by Times Higher Education World University Rankings at 1,501+ among world research-intensive universities. This year, for the second time, the university has climbed the global rankings, moving up to 1,201 – 1500 worldwide. Additionally, the United Kingdom Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) has been adopted to train teachers and implemented across university teachings, aiming to enhance student-centered learning and improve critical, analytical, and synthetic thinking. Currently, Walailak University has 650 lecturers certified by AdvancedHE based on UKPSF, representing the highest number of HEA Fellowships in Southeast Asia.
