The Center for International Affairs (CIA) recently organized a warm welcome for faculty members and students from James Cook University (JCU), Australia, participating in the “James Cook Student Mobility Program 2026.” Marked as the second rendition of this initiative, the program aims to provide international students with hands-on experiences to learn about Thai culture, with a special focus on the unique lifestyle and identity of Southern Thailand.

The sustainable partnership between Walailak University (WU) and JCU was made possible through the initiative and leadership of Associate Professor Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, who bridged the connection between Dr. Nigel Chang, the project leader from JCU, and the CIA. This collaboration led to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and has grown into a robust, ongoing student exchange program since its pilot launch in 2024.

This year, the Center for International Affairs expresses its sincere gratitude to various WU schools for their collaborative support in creating unforgettable experiences:

• School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN): Sponsored and hosted the Thai Language class for the international students.

• School of Education: Created a lasting impression by conducting an authentic Thai Dancing class.

• School of Management: Supported a Thai Cooking workshop and designed an exclusive 3-day, 2-night Ecotourism trip to Krabi Province, allowing students to learn about sustainable tourism practices firsthand.

The core activities of this program focused on deeply immersing students in the local culture of Nakhon Si Thammarat and Southern Thailand, alongside guided tours of significant historical sites that reflect the province’s rich civilization, long history, and cultural diversity.
