In September 2021, the Department of Environmental Health and Technology, School of Public Health, Walailak University (WU), in collaboration with LightBlue Environmental Consulting Co.Ltd. and Eco Thailand Foundation, have co-created a virtual teaching program on “Organizational Management for Sustainability” for WU undergraduate students and faculty members to learn about environmental management for sustainability for environment and good health development.

Dr. Prasert Makkaew and Dr. Apirak Bumyut, lecturers and virtual teaching program coordinators explained that students should be educated and aware of local and global problems in environmental issues, its effects to the globe and people’s health, and know how to deal with these difficulties. Therefore, the program worked with the private company and the NGO foundation to let students hear from the experts’ perspectives, inevitable practical experiences in tackling local and global environmental problems.

Mr. Benjamin Lephilibert, Founder and Managing Director of LightBlue Environmental Consulting, and Dr. John Fitton, Co-Founder of EcoThailand Foundation shared their expertise through a lesson in environmental management for sustainability. This virtual teaching program gave the audience a unique insight into the challenges facing the environmental problems in that the two experts identified problems, solutions, and approaches for developing policies and strategies for sustainability management. Environmental management is a crucial matter for people in the world. It is important to know how to tackle environmental problem e.g. food waste, carbon emission.

Mr. Lephilibert highlighted business cases of preventing food waste, building a performance-based strategy integrating key departments, and advanced monitoring technology through his 12 years in sustainability performance. Dr. Fitton addressed a similar idea on environmental issues that “Environmentalism without community will fail. Community without a good environment will be a poor place to visit or work. A strong and diverse community and environment offers a new and sustainable future for the Gulf of Thailand.”

The Department of Environmental Health and Technology was very encouraging for future collaboration between LightBlue Environmental Consulting Co.Ltd., Eco Thailand Foundation, and Walailak University and they look forward to conducting more integrated programs such as this in future.
