Visit by GIZ-ECOSWat, Thailand

On 20th October 2016, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Global Engagement, warmly welcomed GIZ-ECOSWat Team led by Mr. Roland Treitler during their visit to Walailak University (WU). Currently, WU and ECOSWat are working together on the project “Improved Management of Extream Events through Ecosystem-based Adaptation in Watershed”. This project, commissioned by German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nuclear safety and Buildings (BMUB), aims for appropriately qualifying the local water departments in the Chi and Tha Di basins to plan and assess ecosystem-based adaptation measures for protection against the effects of extreme events. Lessons learned from the project have been fed into national-level adaptation strategies for the water sector. Mr. Suthira Thongkao, a lecturer in the School of Engineering and Resources and also the leading researcher, has been working on this project with ECOSWat since 2013.
