WU-YSEALI Debate Camp 2016
On 29th October 2016, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Global Engagement joined by Dr. Pongsathorn Dechatiwongse Na Ayuthaya, Director of International Affairs and his team warmly welcomed Mr. Michael Prosser, Assistant Cultural Attaché, U.S. Embassy Bangkok, 12 members of Yseali Debate Camp and 30 student participants at the WU-YSEALI Debate Camp 2016, Walailak University. During an opening ceremony, organisers and participants stood in silent tribute to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, followed by singing the Royal Anthem. The camp was co-hosted by Inter Affairs Walailak and Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative under the theme of “Presidential US Election” 30 students participants were selected based on the quality of their written essays, from over 65 applicants.
On 30th October 2016, 30 students from various universities (listed below) traveled to Walailak University for participating in the WU-YSEALI Debate Camp 2016. Students were divided into 5 debating groups, based on their interested theme: – Civic Engagement – Education – Economic Development/ Social Entrepreneur – Environmental Issues Interesting, but controversial topics of debate initiated intensive exchanges of discussion and argument between debaters. Of all, 5 students who received the highest scores (regardless of the group) were selected for the final debating round.
